A maths exercise that has you stuck?Coach reads the working and shows the missing step.

The student writes their reasoning line by line, as on paper. Coach corrects it step by step: what is right, where it stops, and how to redo what is missing. Maths, 6e to Terminale, following the Ministry of Education’s official programmes, published in the Bulletin officiel.

Exercise 1

6 / 10 points~5 min

In triangle A⁢B⁢C, right-angled at A, A⁢B=6cm and A⁢C=8cm. Find the length of the hypotenuse B⁢C.

BC2=AB2+AC2BC2=62+82=36+64=100BC=100cm

Feedback

Error analysis: You found BC2=100, then concluded that B⁢C is 100 cm. The last step is missing: taking the square root.

Suggestions for improvement: When you work with a square, always finish with the root: B⁢C=100=10cm. Also check that the hypotenuse is still the longest side.

Solution

“BC² = 100, so BC = 100 cm.” The square root is missing: that is the step the error analysis names in the correction. Reproduction of Coach’s screen, sample content.

How a notion is mastered: four stages.

Every notion follows the same four stages. The next one opens when the previous one is passed.

  1. Stage 1

    Discovery

A lesson that starts from their interests, read with the Companion beside it for questions and “Explain this” to rephrase a passage.

  2. Stage 2

    Assimilation

A series of exercises where the student writes their working line by line, with the Companion for a question during the exercise. At correction time, Coach reads every step: what is right, the step where it stops, and the detailed solution.

  3. Stage 3

    Restitution

A timed, full-screen exam, with no help and no Companion: the student restitutes the notion on their own.

  4. Stage 4

    Mastery

A challenge that chains questions on a complete situation, to check that the notion holds in a whole problem.

Try a series, as in Coach.

The Assimilation stage, to do yourself: five 3e exercises, one of each type, in Coach’s interface. You write your answers; the correction happens in Coach, with a free account.

You can write your answers here to discover the interface. The correction happens in Coach, with a free account: what you write here stays in your browser and is not transferred.

AI for Good

Our use case, published in AI for Good’s Innovate for Impact programme.

AI for Good is the United Nations platform on artificial intelligence, organised by the ITU. Its Innovate for Impact programme gathers AI use cases for the Sustainable Development Goals every year. AiCole took part in 2026 with the use case below, which we wrote: a publication, not an evaluation of our results.

When a student gets it wrong, the cause is almost always one of these four.

The first three are each worked on separately. The fourth recedes once the other three hold.

Three areas to train · pick one

  • Pillar 1

    Modelling

    Turning the situation into maths.

Extracting the useful elements from a statement, setting aside what distracts, writing the situation in symbols.

  • Pillar 2

    Reasoning

Knowing what to apply, and in what order.

Choosing the property, formula or method that fits, organising the steps, justifying each move.

  • Pillar 3

    Execution

    Getting the calculation right.

Once the model is set and the method chosen: calculating cleanly, following the rules, checking the result.

Their consequence

  • Consequence

    Inhibition

Freezing in front of the problem.

The student does not dare start, or gives up. It happens while the other three are not secure yet, and recedes as they get stronger.

Back-to-school supplies

Situation
Before school starts, Leo, who is 14, goes shopping with his older sister. He buys 3 notebooks at €4 each and a pen at €2. His sister treats herself to a €25 bag. The shop opens at 9:00 and offers a free loyalty card.
Question
How much did Leo spend?
Your task
A student has noted the key elements of the text. Tap the line that doesn’t match the problem, then choose the reason.

Answer all 3 exercises, then submit: each mistake will be located and explained.

Four rules for the AI in Coach.

Each one can be checked in the product.

Trust & data
  • It reads the student’s work

The correction covers every written step, with an analysis of the errors and a detailed solution.

  • It helps without giving the answer

During an exercise, the Companion is designed to guide without giving the final answer: the solution is not passed to the model, and an automatic check rejects a reply that would contain it. The detailed solution comes after the correction.

  • It does not try to keep the student coming back

Coach sends no notification to bring the student back. A session starts because they have a notion to work on, and ends with it.

  • It works on little data

The year, the subject, the interests the student chose and the work done in Coach. The AI models receive this learning profile and the student’s first name, never their e-mail address or account identifier.

Tested in class, with teachers on the ground.

Pilot results
  • Born of research work

Begun in 2023 and fed by teachers’ feedback, before AiCole was founded in 2024. Since then, the method has been built and tested in class, with teachers, mostly in maths.

  • Teachers’ feedback from the classroom

AiCole works with the Ensemble Scolaire Notre Dame Saint Joseph in Épinal, a partner school: teachers there use Coach with their students as part of an educational experiment and send us their feedback. This feedback helps us improve the platform from the uses and needs observed in class.
