Stuck on a maths exercise?Write your working: Coach shows you the step that trips you up.
Every notion follows four stages: a lesson, a series of exercises, an exam without help, a challenge. This page shows what you see at each one, on the same example, Pythagoras’ theorem in 3e, as the platform displays it.
Maths, 6e to Terminale.
Exercise 1
In triangle , right-angled at , and . Find the length of the hypotenuse .
The journey, on a real example: Pythagoras in 3e.
The screens are reproductions of the platform, with sample content.
A profile in a few minutes, which the student can redo
On arriving in Coach, the student gives their first name, their year, and a name for their assistant. A short conversation, which they can skip, then records their interests and how they prefer things explained.
Do they prefer an overview or a guided example to enter a lesson? A hint, a similar example or a list of points to check when they are stuck? These preferences then serve every notion.

A lesson that talks about what they know
Pythagoras arrives through a concrete problem, chosen among their interests: here, the diagonal of a football pitch, with the figure in view.
Beside the lesson, the Companion answers their questions. By selecting a passage, the student chooses “Explain this” or “Summarise this” and gets another formulation. Once every section is read, the lesson is marked “Discovered” and the series of exercises opens.
Léa crosses her football pitch diagonally. The pitch is m by m: how far does she run?
In a right-angled triangle, the side opposite the right angle is called the hypotenuse. It is the longest of the three sides.
If triangle is right-angled at , then the square of the hypotenuse equals the sum of the squares of the other two sides:
On Léa’s pitch: m.
Exercises the student writes out, and a correction that reads
A series of exercises of five types: a problem to write out, fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice, short answer, true or false. The student writes their working line by line in the maths field, in Maths or Text mode. Each answer is saved as soon as they move to the next.

After “Grade”
A mark out of 20, and feedback on each exercise
The whole series is corrected in one go. At the top, the mark and a word on the whole. For each exercise: its points, what was done right, the analysis of the errors, suggestions, and the detailed solution to compare. During the series, “Need help” opens the Companion.
Excerpt from this correction
The stage is complete once a series is passed.
Score: 14 / 20
A solid series: you can spot the hypotenuse and apply the theorem. Remember to finish the calculation: in two exercises, the square root is missing at the end.
In triangle , right-angled at , and . Find the length of the hypotenuse .
Feedback
What you did well: You identified the hypotenuse and wrote the relation . Your calculation is correct.
Error analysis: You found , then concluded that is 100 cm. The last step is missing: taking the square root.
Suggestions for improvement: When you work with a square, always finish with the root: . Also check that the hypotenuse is still the longest side.
Final encouragement: Your working is almost complete, only one step is missing!
Solution
An exam, without help
Once the series is passed, the student takes an exam on the notion: test-style questions, generated for them, with no hint and no Companion.
Before starting, they see the duration, the marking scheme and the rules: full screen, limited time, no resources. They then receive their mark and feedback. This is the journey’s internal assessment; the Brevet blanc and the Bac blanc have their own space in Coach.

Before you start
Full-screen mode
The exam runs in full-screen mode, switched on automatically when it starts.
Time limit
You have 30 minutes. The exam is submitted automatically when time runs out.
Leaving the exam
Leaving full screen asks you to choose between continuing and giving up. Refreshing the page, using the back button or closing the tab can interrupt the exam.
Format
All the exercises are visible at once. Your answers are saved automatically.
No assistance
The chat and learning resources are not available during the exam.
A challenge: questions that chain on a complete situation
After the exam, a challenge checks that the notion holds in a whole problem.
Each challenge starts from a long statement, then asks questions that chain: 1a, 1b, 1c… When the challenge is passed, the lesson is marked “Mastered”.
In the app: Challenge
Challenge 1
The Martin family has a rectangular garden , m long and m wide. They want to lay a straight path from corner to corner , then sow grass over the rest of the garden. The path is m wide along its whole length. One bag of seed covers m² of lawn.
Exercise 1a2 points
Explain why triangle is right-angled, and say at which vertex.
ABCD is a rectangle, so the angle at B is a right angle: ABC is right-angled at B.Exercise 1b3 points
Work out the length of the path.
AC2=AB2+BC2=122+52=169AC=√169=13mExercise 1c5 points
Work out the area of grass to sow, then the number of seed bags to buy.
Try a series, as in Coach.
Five 3e exercises on Pythagoras’ theorem, one of each type. Write your working, move from one exercise to the next, then click “Grade”.
You can write your answers here to discover the interface. The correction happens in Coach, with a free account: what you write here stays in your browser and is not transferred.

When a student gets it wrong, the cause is almost always one of these four.
The first three are each worked on separately. The fourth recedes once the other three hold.
The Training Zone
Short chapters that work on a single pillar at a time: spotting in a text what serves the calculation without calculating anything, choosing the method and ordering the steps, or calculating correctly when the model is given.
Planned for the 2026-2027 school year. Preview below: these exercises are graded in your browser, without AI.
Three areas to train · pick one
- Pillar 1
Modelling
Turning the situation into maths.
Extracting the useful elements from a statement, setting aside what distracts, writing the situation in symbols.
- Pillar 2
Reasoning
Knowing what to apply, and in what order.
Choosing the property, formula or method that fits, organising the steps, justifying each move.
- Pillar 3
Execution
Getting the calculation right.
Once the model is set and the method chosen: calculating cleanly, following the rules, checking the result.
Their consequence
- Consequence
Inhibition
Freezing in front of the problem.
The student does not dare start, or gives up. It happens while the other three are not secure yet, and recedes as they get stronger.

What Coach covers today.
Maths, 6e to Terminale, following the Ministry of Education’s official programmes, published in the Bulletin officiel. The chapters available for each year are listed in the app, once the year is chosen. In 3e, a Brevet blanc; in Terminale, a Bac blanc for the maths speciality.
Other subjects are planned. We will announce them here when they exist.
